Sagpulon Falls: Hello, Goodbye… Hello... The Ruins

9 Jun 2014
Mindanao, Philippines is not just a land of promise (when U.S. General Mac Arthur promised he shall return during our battle with the Spaniards during the WWII). Mindanao is also a land of majestic waterfalls.

>>> continued from Sagpulon Falls: Hello, Goodbye… Hello…

Sagpulon Falls

Now we reached the scenic waterfall and were amazed of its view, but sad how the old resort right in front of it, which was ran by the local government tourism was in complete ruin. The flood ate all up its beauty. Oh, the power of nature!

The image below is an old swimming pool, which used to be blue and beautiful.  Now it has nothing but fun memories from the playful tourists and filthy waters, probably some are remains of the flood.

Our daughter told us the place now looks haunted, like many dead people are living right now. Well, there were only 4 of us there, and it was so quiet (except for the sounds of the running waters, birds and wind. It was sweet and wet to feel the mists from the waterfall though.

Going back home my husband slipped on top of a smooth, big rock – the place is rocky and tricky, so watch out!  Luckily he brought a big sling bag hanged on his shoulder, and the bag itself became the cushion of his behind when he fell down with a little scratch on his one hand. Now don’t forget some first aid kits. Next time I won’t.

After this trip we cooled down at the roadside resort – the springview resort. They have pools, which 6 feet was the deepest. I forgot to ask, but it seems like the water in their pool is sourced form natural spring that flows continually, even from their showers. And no, there is no smell of chlorine at all. Water was also cold, enough for you to get some goose bumps at first.

We went back home by riding a jeepney from right across the street that goes back to Agora terminal in Cagayan de Oro City. The fair was P25.00 ($0.58) per person (jeepney rate only). Air-conditioned bachelors are twice as much.

It was a short trip, a little bit of scrapes from a little tip on the rock – we called it a day of adventure for the 3 of us. Pure nature trekking is sweet when synthetic trashes are absent most of all.

Until next time...
